Legal // the annoying banner, explained
Cookie Policy.
Most cookie banners are theatre in front of a tracking pipeline. Ours is honest: today we set two functional values and nothing else. Here is exactly what and why.
What we actually store
We do not use traditional cookies for tracking. We use two small values kept in your browser's local storage. Neither is sent to a server, and neither identifies you.
| Name | Type | Category | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|---|
se-booted | Local storage | Necessary | Remembers that you have already seen the intro / boot animation so it only plays once. | Until you clear site data |
se-consent | Local storage | Necessary | Remembers your cookie preferences so we do not ask on every page. | Until you clear it or change your choices |
The categories on the banner
Our consent banner offers three categories. Only the first does anything right now — the other two are wired and waiting, so that if we ever add them, your choice is already respected rather than assumed.
- Necessary — always on. The two values above. The site cannot sensibly work without remembering your consent choice.
- Analytics — off, and currently unused. We run no analytics today. If we ever add privacy-respecting, aggregate analytics, it will only load if you turn this on.
- Preferences — off, and currently unused. Reserved for optional conveniences (remembering a view setting, say) that we do not yet offer.
Managing your choices
You can reopen the banner and change your preferences whenever you like:
You can also clear everything from your browser's site-data settings. Because our values live in local storage, clearing site data removes them completely.
Third parties
The site is served by a static host (GitHub Pages), which may keep standard server access logs. We embed no third-party advertising, social or analytics scripts that would set cookies of their own.
Changes
If our use of storage changes, we will update this page and the banner, and — for anything non-essential — ask before setting it. See the Privacy Policy for the wider picture.
